Today's Synergy Datacom Supply was originally founded in Oklahoma City as Radio Supply in 1936. As the name implies, the business catered to the then infant radio industry, offering radio parts to dealers, repair shops and do-it-yourselfers.
Though ownership changed serveral times, for the next forty years Radio Supply's business stayed constant. The company grew with the times as television tubes began to crowd radio tubes on the warehouse shelves. Later, tubes gave way to transistors and electrical gave way to electronics.
In 1974, Radio Supply was sold to George Wyatt and Leonard Gatewood and, in 1976, Gatewood and his wife Barbera became the sole owners, and although the name Radio Supply stayed they had become a general line electronic parts distributor.
By the mid 1990's, Radio Supply emphasis had evolved to telecommunications and networking supplies instead of electronic supplies and the company was looking to move from it's original location in downtown Oklahoma City to a larger facility. The move was hastened on April 19th, 1995 when the Oklahoma City bombing less than three blocks away damaged the Radio Supply Building. The company opened it's new location six months to the day after the bombing on October 19th, 1995.
In 1998, Gary Gatewood along with his business partner Jim Nashert, purchased the company from Gatewood's parents and Synergy Datacom was born. After the aquisition Gary and Jim decided the name Radio Supply had become a "bit antiquated," and the name Synergy Datacom was chosen to better represent the multiple elements of technologies, products, customers, and employees working together.
By 2003, the company was looking to expand it's market and chose Colorado Springs as it's first branch location, due to it's relative closeness to Oklahoma City, and favorable market conditions.
Today, Synergy Datacom employs 25 people with eight inside sales people and four outside sales people in their Oklahoma City and Colorado Springs Branches. In addition, four members of the Synergy Sales staff are BICSI Registered Communication Distribution Designers.
